FAQs

How quickly can I be seen?2026-06-22T11:53:15-07:00

Our admissions team responds to all inquiries within 24 hours — often much sooner. Outpatient appointments are typically available within 1–2 weeks, and in many cases we can schedule your first visit the same week. For urgent needs, call (855) 435-3801 directly. IOP/vIOP, PHP, and residential admissions can often be completed within days for appropriate cases.

Do I need a referral to start?2026-06-22T11:55:41-07:00

No referral is required. You can call, email, or submit our contact form directly, and our admissions team will conduct a free clinical assessment to determine the appropriate level of care. If you do have a referral from a provider, that’s welcome and helpful — just not required.

What happens during the clinical assessment?2026-06-22T11:56:03-07:00

The assessment is a thorough conversation — typically 45–60 minutes — covering your current symptoms, history, previous treatment, living situation, and goals. It’s not a test and there are no wrong answers. The purpose is to understand your needs well enough to recommend the right level and type of care.

What do I need to bring or prepare?2026-06-22T11:56:23-07:00

If you have recent psychiatric records, previous diagnoses, or a list of current medications, those are helpful to have available. For insurance verification, we’ll need your insurance card information. Beyond that, you just need yourself — our team handles the rest.

How do you match me with a therapist? Can I choose?2026-06-22T11:59:37-07:00

We take into account your preferences (such as gender, ethnicity, and specialty area), your availability, your insurance, and the reasons you’re seeking services — then match you with the clinician who is the best clinical fit. If you ever feel the match isn’t working, we’ll help you find a better fit. The therapeutic relationship is central to outcomes, and we take it seriously.

Is treatment confidential?2026-06-03T11:37:40-07:00

Yes. All services at The Mindful Lemon are strictly confidential and protected under HIPAA. Information is only shared with your written consent — except in the limited circumstances required by law, such as imminent danger to yourself or others.

What if I need a higher level of care than outpatient?2026-06-03T11:38:00-07:00

Our admissions team assesses the appropriate level of care from the beginning. If your needs exceed outpatient, we will recommend IOP, PHP, or residential care and walk you through what that looks like. If your needs change during outpatient treatment, we can step you up to a higher level of care within our system without losing continuity.

What is the difference between the programs?2026-06-03T11:38:21-07:00

Outpatient therapy is weekly sessions. IOP/vIOP is 3–5 days per week for about 3 hours per session. PHP is 5 days per week for 5–6 hours per day. Residential is 24/7 structured care in our 6-bed Los Angeles program. Our Level of Care Guide explains each in detail — or take our Care Quiz for a personalized recommendation.

Do you offer virtual sessions, in-person sessions, or both?2026-06-22T12:00:15-07:00

Both. Outpatient therapy is available virtually and, for certain programs, in person. Our intensive programs include both in-person IOP and a fully Virtual IOP (vIOP), and PHP and residential treatment are in person. Virtual sessions are held inside our secure, HIPAA-compliant patient portal — powered by Qualifacts InSync with integrated Zoom — at https://themindfullemonintouch.insynchcs.com. You’ll also receive your session link by text and email 24 hours before each appointment; no special downloads required.

Do you see children, couples, and families?2026-06-22T12:00:49-07:00

Yes. Outpatient therapy is available for all ages, and many of our providers specialize in couples and family therapy. Our residential program is for adults 18+ only.

Do you have therapists who speak other languages?2026-06-22T12:01:38-07:00

Yes. We have providers who speak a variety of languages, and we also offer HIPAA-secure translation services at no cost to our clients.

How long are sessions, and how often will I be seen?2026-06-22T12:05:28-07:00

Most sessions are one hour, which includes 50–53 minutes of therapy time. Research links better therapeutic outcomes to consistent weekly sessions, so in most cases weekly, recurring appointments are most beneficial — though frequency is always determined with your provider and customized to your needs.

How do I access the patient portal and join my virtual session?2026-06-22T12:08:22-07:00

Your patient portal is at https://themindfullemonintouch.insynchcs.com — it’s where you join virtual sessions, message your provider, manage appointments, and handle paperwork. Sessions are held within the portal using integrated Zoom on our HIPAA-compliant platform, powered by Qualifacts InSync. You’ll also get a session link by text and email 24 hours before each appointment, and you can join from a computer, tablet, or phone.

How do I cancel or reschedule an appointment?2026-06-22T12:07:45-07:00

You can cancel with more than 24 hours’ notice directly from the patient portal (https://themindfullemonintouch.insynchcs.com), by messaging your provider, by emailing appointments@themindfullemon.com, or by calling (855) 435-3801. We recommend coordinating scheduling directly with your provider so they can help you reschedule as soon as possible.

Why do you need a credit card on file?2026-06-22T12:07:17-07:00

We require a payment method on file for any out-of-pocket costs. Even if you have a $0 copay, a card secures your appointment. We ask for 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel.

Does The Mindful Lemon accept my insurance?2026-06-22T12:09:01-07:00

We accept most major insurance plans and many EAP plans, and we’re contracted with Medi-Cal and Medicare. Our list of in-network payers grows regularly — if you don’t see yours, reach out and we’ll check. We verify your coverage for free and confirm your out-of-pocket cost before your first session.

How much will sessions cost me?2026-06-22T12:09:48-07:00

Out-of-pocket costs vary by plan, but typical copays range from $0 to $30 per session — and depending on your plan, sessions could be fully covered. For clients paying without insurance, our cash rate for individual therapy is $150 per session. We verify your benefits before your first appointment, though we also suggest confirming expected costs with your insurer directly.

What if you don’t take my insurance?2026-06-22T12:10:21-07:00

If we’re out-of-network and you have a PPO or another plan with out-of-network benefits, your insurance will likely cover a portion of your sessions. In that case we offer a reduced cash rate and submit claims on your behalf, and your insurer reimburses you directly based on your plan. If you don’t have out-of-network benefits, we’ll offer a reduced cash rate.

Can I use EAP, HSA, or FSA benefits?2026-06-22T12:10:53-07:00

Yes to all three. We accept many EAP plans — there’s a good chance we take yours. HSA and FSA cards can be entered as your payment method on file, or you can submit a receipt for reimbursement.

Help me understand insurance terms — copay, deductible, coinsurance, out-of-pocket maximum.2026-06-22T12:11:25-07:00

Copay: a fixed amount collected at each session, set by your plan. Deductible: an annual amount you pay out of pocket before insurance starts paying claims; some plans don’t apply the deductible to therapy, and it resets each plan year. Coinsurance: the percentage of the negotiated rate you pay The Mindful Lemon for each session after your deductible is met, if applicable. Out-of-pocket maximum: the most you’ll pay in a year for covered healthcare — once you reach it, your plan pays 100% of covered services.

Are there limits on how many sessions insurance will cover?2026-06-22T12:11:55-07:00

Most plans don’t limit sessions that are medically necessary. If your plan does have limits — for example, when using an EAP benefit — we’ll help you keep track and discuss options for continued care if needed.

When am I charged, and what if my bill doesn’t match my quote?2026-06-22T12:12:25-07:00

We charge your payment method on file after each visit. Occasionally you may receive a later charge for the patient-responsibility portion after your insurance processes the claim — coverage isn’t final until your insurer adjudicates it, which can lead to invoices that differ from your initial benefits quote. We always strive to provide an accurate estimate upfront, and our Patient Accounts team is happy to walk through your account anytime. If your insurance changes, please tell us as soon as possible so we can review the impact on your coverage and help you avoid unexpected costs.

Is treatment confidential?2026-06-22T12:12:55-07:00

Yes. All services are strictly confidential and protected under HIPAA. Information is shared only with your written consent — except in the limited circumstances required by law, such as imminent danger to yourself or others.

Do you offer medication management?2026-06-22T12:13:21-07:00

Yes. Medication management is available as an add-on service alongside any level of care — from weekly outpatient therapy through residential treatment — coordinated with your therapy so your whole care team stays connected.

What’s the difference between Outpatient, IOP/vIOP, PHP, and Residential?2026-06-22T12:13:50-07:00

Outpatient therapy is weekly sessions. IOP/vIOP runs 3–5 days per week for about 3 hours per day, in person or fully virtual. PHP is 5 days per week with full-day programming. Residential is 24/7 structured care in our 6-bed Los Angeles–area home. Our Level of Care Guide explains each in detail — or take the Care Quiz for a personalized recommendation.

What if I need more support than weekly therapy?2026-06-22T12:14:16-07:00

Our admissions team assesses the right level of care from the beginning, and if your needs change during treatment, we can step you up to IOP/vIOP, PHP, or residential care within our system — without losing continuity. Your story doesn’t reset; your care adjusts.
