Personality Disorders

Long-Term Change Is
Possible With the Right Care.

Personality disorders are among the most misunderstood and stigmatized diagnoses in mental health. They are also among the most treatable — when approached with the right evidence-based interventions, genuine compassion, and enough clinical intensity to produce real change.

Overview

Understanding Personality Disorders

Personality disorders involve deeply ingrained patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating to others that cause significant distress and functional impairment. Borderline, narcissistic, avoidant, histrionic, and other personality disorders each present differently — but all respond to specialized, longer-term therapeutic work.

DBT was originally developed specifically for borderline personality disorder and remains the gold standard. Schema therapy addresses the deep-rooted belief systems that underlie many personality disorders. At The Mindful Lemon, our clinicians are trained in these specialized modalities and provide the consistent, boundaried, and compassionate therapeutic relationships that personality disorder treatment requires.

Treatment Approaches

Evidence-Based Care for Personality Disorders

Every treatment approach is grounded in the Lemon Reset™ framework and adapted to your specific diagnosis, severity, and goals.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

The gold standard for BPD and emotional dysregulation — building distress tolerance, emotional regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness in a structured, skills-based format.

Schema Therapy

Addressing the deep-rooted early maladaptive schemas — core beliefs formed in childhood — that underlie many personality disorder presentations.

Mentalization-Based Treatment

Building the capacity to understand one’s own and others’ mental states — fundamental to the relational difficulties in personality disorders.

Transference-Focused Psychotherapy

IPSRT addresses the disruptions in daily rhythms — sleep, activity, social contact — that often trigger bipolar episodes.

Family Education

Helping family members understand personality disorders and learn communication strategies that support rather than reinforce maladaptive patterns.

Intensive Programming

IOP, PHP, and residential programs provide the daily structure and consistent clinical contact that personality disorder treatment often requires for meaningful change.
