Adults Only — Who This Is For

Is Residential Treatment Right for You?

Our residential program is designed for adults (18+) who need more support than outpatient or IOP can provide — but who do not require a hospital or locked facility.

You may be a good fit if you are:
  • Struggling to maintain safety or stability at home

  • Experiencing a mental health crisis or significant decompensation

  • Transitioning from a higher level of care (hospital or detox)

  • Finding that outpatient or IOP is no longer sufficient

  • Needing 24/7 structure, supervision, and therapeutic support

  • Dealing with co-occurring mental health and substance use

Our program is designed for adults with:
  • Severe anxiety, depression, or mood disorders

  • PTSD and complex trauma

  • Borderline personality disorder (BPD)

  • Bipolar disorder requiring stabilization

  • Co-occurring substance use and mental health

  • Suicidal ideation that does not require hospitalization

Structure of Residential

A Day at The Mindful Lemon

Every day in our residential program is intentionally structured — because predictable rhythms create the safety within which real healing can happen.

Morning Routine & Mindfulness

Grounding practices, morning check-ins, and structured breakfast that set a regulated, intentional tone for the day.

Individual Therapy

Daily or near-daily one-on-one sessions with your primary therapist — deep, consistent, and grounded in the Lemon Reset™ framework.

Group Therapy

Multiple therapeutic groups daily — skills-based, process, and psychoeducation groups that build community and shared understanding.

Medication Management

On-site psychiatric evaluation and medication management integrated into your overall treatment plan.

Holistic & Wellness Activities

Movement, nutrition, creative expression, and community outings that support whole-person recovery.

Evening Wind-Down

Structured evening routines that support sleep regulation, emotional processing, and preparation for the next day.

Transition Planning

We Plan for What Comes Next

Discharge planning begins from day one at The Mindful Lemon. Residential treatment is a chapter — not the whole story. Our clinical team works with you to ensure a smooth, supported transition to the next level of care.

Most clients transition to IOP or outpatient therapy following residential — remaining within The Mindful Lemon system so your care stays connected and your story doesn’t have to be retold.

  • Step-down planning built into every treatment plan

  • Warm hand-off to your next treatment team

  • Family involvement in transition planning

  • Aftercare coordination including housing, medication, and community support

Answering Your Questions

Residential FAQs

What happens after I leave residential?2026-06-22T12:20:25-07:00

We create a personalized step-down plan that may include Virtual IOP, in-person IOP, or outpatient therapy — often with the same clinical team, always within the same Lemon Reset™ framework. Our goal is continuity, not disruption: when less structure is appropriate, we step down with you.

Is residential treatment confidential?2026-06-22T12:20:00-07:00

Yes. Your care is protected under HIPAA, and records related to substance use treatment receive additional federal protection under 42 CFR Part 2. Information is shared only with your written consent, outside of the narrow exceptions required by law.

Is the program licensed and accredited?2026-06-22T12:19:36-07:00

Yes. The Mindful Lemon is DHCS certified (DSS License #197610665), holds The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval®, and is fully HIPAA compliant.

Do you accept insurance for residential treatment?2026-06-22T12:19:08-07:00

Yes. We accept most major PPO insurance plans and will verify your benefits for free before admission, so you know what to expect financially.

What should I pack, and can my family be involved?2026-06-22T12:18:38-07:00

Our admissions team provides a complete packing list before you arrive — comfortable clothing, personal essentials, and any current medications in original packaging are the foundation. Family involvement and communication are coordinated with your clinical team as part of your treatment plan, and specifics are reviewed during admissions.

Can I bring my phone or laptop?2026-06-22T12:18:09-07:00

Technology use is limited to protect focus and emotional safety. Clients may have supervised access for specific needs during designated times. These guidelines are reviewed in detail during admissions.

Can I keep working or attending school during treatment?2026-06-22T12:17:41-07:00

Residential care is immersive by design — it’s for people who need to pause daily responsibilities and focus fully on healing. If you need to maintain work or school, our Virtual IOP or outpatient services may be the better fit, and we’ll help you decide.

How long is the residential program?2026-06-22T12:17:12-07:00

Length of stay is determined by your clinical needs and insurance coverage. Most clients stay 21–45 days, with options to extend when appropriate. Progress and discharge planning are reviewed weekly with your clinical team.

What does a typical day look like?2026-06-22T12:16:44-07:00

Days follow a consistent rhythm of individual therapy, group therapy, DBT skills training and psychoeducation, mindfulness practice, holistic services, meals, and intentional rest. Structure is part of the treatment — predictable days support regulation, which is where the Lemon Reset™ begins.

Where is the program, and what is the living environment like?2026-06-22T12:16:20-07:00

TML Villa Canyon is our private, 6-bed residence in Castaic, CA — quiet, structured, and home-like rather than institutional. You’ll have a shared or semi-private room, daily routines, a peaceful setting, and 24/7 access to staff.

Do you offer detox or withdrawal management?2026-06-22T12:15:51-07:00

We are not a medical detox facility — clients must be medically stable before admission. If detox is needed first, we can refer you to a trusted provider and coordinate your step-down into our care after stabilization.

Who do you treat, and what conditions?2026-06-22T12:15:29-07:00

Our residential program serves adults 18 and older, specializing in mental health and dual-diagnosis care. Common conditions include depression, anxiety, PTSD and trauma-related disorders, personality disorders, suicidal ideation, substance use, and emotional dysregulation.

How do I know if residential is the right level of care?2026-06-22T12:15:00-07:00

If outpatient therapy hasn’t been enough, if you’re struggling to stay safe or regulated on your own, or if you feel emotionally overwhelmed most of the time — residential care may be the right next step. Our free clinical assessment will confirm fit, or you can start with the Care Quiz for a quick recommendation.
