Our Commitment

Our Commitment to Accessibility

The Mindful Lemon, LLC believes that access to mental health information should never be a barrier to care. We are committed to making our website — www.themindfullemon.com — accessible and usable for people with disabilities, including those who use screen readers, voice control, keyboard navigation, or other assistive technologies.

Accessibility is a core part of our mission of mental wellness and community. We actively work to ensure our digital presence meets or exceeds applicable accessibility standards so that every person seeking help can access our resources with dignity and independence.

Accessibility is Ongoing

Digital accessibility is not a one-time project — it is an ongoing commitment. We continuously audit, test, and improve our website to identify and remediate barriers. This statement will be updated periodically to reflect our current status and efforts.

WCAG 2.1 AA Standard

The WCAG 2.1 AA Standard

Our website targets conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the internationally recognized standard for digital accessibility. WCAG 2.1 AA is organized around four core principles, known as POUR:

Principle 1
Perceivable

Information and UI components must be presentable in ways all users can perceive — including text alternatives for non-text content and captions for multimedia.

Principle 2
Operable

All functionality must be accessible via keyboard navigation, and users must have sufficient time to read and interact with content.

Principle 3
Understandable

Content and interfaces must be readable and predictable. Error messages and instructions must be clear and helpful.

Principle 4
Robust

Content must be reliably interpreted by current and future assistive technologies, including screen readers and voice control software.

Our Ongoing Improvement Roadmap

While WCAG 2.1 Level AA is our current target, we are also monitoring WCAG 2.2 AA (published October 2023), which adds enhancements for keyboard navigation, focus visibility, and touch accessibility. We aim to align with WCAG 2.2 as part of our ongoing improvement roadmap.

Compliance Status

Current Compliance Status

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We are actively working to achieve full conformance. Below is a summary of our compliance status by key area:

Legal Framework

Legal Framework

Our accessibility commitments are informed by the following legal requirements and frameworks:

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) — Title III

As a place of public accommodation providing healthcare services, The Mindful Lemon is subject to ADA Title III, which requires equal access for people with disabilities. Courts and the DOJ have consistently held that this applies to websites and digital services. The DOJ’s 2022 guidance reaffirmed that commercial healthcare websites must be accessible.

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act / HHS Final Rule (2024)

In May 2024, HHS updated Section 504 to require that healthcare organizations receiving federal funding ensure their digital properties — including websites, mobile apps, and online scheduling systems — conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. This is the first time digital accessibility has been explicitly enforceable under Section 504. As an organization that may participate in Medicaid, Medicare, or receive any federal funding, TML is subject to this requirement.

ADA Title II Update (April 2024)

The DOJ’s April 2024 final rule formally incorporated WCAG 2.1 Level AA into Title II of the ADA for state and local government entities. This update signals the direction of Title III enforcement for private healthcare providers and reinforces our commitment to WCAG 2.1 AA as the minimum standard.

Healthcare Accessibility Is a Civil Rights Issue

Access to mental health information is not just a best practice — it is essential to health equity. Inaccessible digital resources can prevent people with disabilities from learning about treatment options, scheduling care, or accessing crisis support. We take this responsibility seriously.

Known Limitations

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, we are aware of certain limitations in our current website’s accessibility. We are actively working to address these:

  • Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen readers; we are remediating these

  • Certain embedded third-party widgets (e.g., insurance verification tools, scheduling platforms) may not be fully within our direct control; we are working with vendors to improve accessibility

  • Video content, where present, may not yet have synchronized captions; this is a priority as video is added to the site

  • Some interactive form elements may require additional ARIA labeling work, currently in progress

If you encounter a barrier not listed here, please let us know (see Section 8) — your feedback directly informs our remediation priorities.
